Robert F. Gazdzinski

Mr. Gazdzinski is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and has been admitted to the State Bars of California, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. He has also been admitted to United States District Courts for the Southern District of California, District of New Jersey, and Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Gazdzinski has a Juris Doctor degree from Rutgers University School of Law, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from University of San Diego, and a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Drexel University. Mr. Gazdzinski has also completed the Naval Nuclear Power Training program (comparable to a Master's degree in nuclear engineering).

Prior to forming his own firm, Mr. Gazdzinski was associated with the law firm of Knobbe, Martens, Olson and Bear in San Diego, CA for several years. While at Knobbe Martens, Mr. Gazdzinski was responsible for domestic and international patent and trademark prosecution for a number of clients, as well as directing two patent evaluation and acquisition projects relating to a wide spectrum of technologies including asynchronous transfer mode (ATM), IEEE 802.3x, IEEE 1149 JTAG, virtual private networking (VPN), speech recognition, IS-95, IS-54/136, GSM/PCS-1900, CDPD, IEEE 802.11 WLAN, FHSS, ITU H.323, MPEG, and digital signal processing (DSP).  Mr. Gazdzinski also negotiated and drafted software licenses for a variety of clients.

Before joining Knobbe Martens, Mr. Gazdzinski was an extern with the New Jersey Corporation for Advanced Technology, a senior nuclear engineer with Ogden Corporation, a Naval Officer assigned to nuclear submarines and naval intelligence, and a semiconductor research technician with IBM Corporation at Brookhaven National Laboratory.  Mr. Gazdzinski also worked as an operations assistant at Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station.

Mr. Gazdzinski is an inventor on nine (9) issued U.S. Patents, and numerous pending U.S. and international applications. He has also published several
works relating to intellectual property and various topics relating to nuclear engineering and electrical/electronics component aging, including SAND-96-0344, which is currently used by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission as a licensing standard for nuclear plant electrical components (see IEEE-Std. 1205-2000). He is also member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, American Nuclear Society, and other professional organizations.

Mr. Gazdzinski is also co-founder and President of HoloWave Incorporated, developing next-generation holographic radio frequency communications technologies, and co-founder of Fusioneer Systems, Inc., developing micro-scale laser-based nuclear fusion technology. He is also the founder and CEO of NeutraScan Corporation, dealing with improved polymer aging evaluation techniques using subatomic particle activation.

 

Brian S. Edmonston

Brian S. Edmonston is an intellectual property attorney (consulting) with Gazdzinski & Associates. He is a registered patent attorney, and is admitted to the California Bar.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Edmonston was President of iCoding Technology Inc. in San Diego, and oversaw the development and sales of high-performance broadband turbo decoder technology and intellectual property (IP) cores, as well as patent portfolio development.  He was also a participant in the IEEE Std. 802.16 standards group.

Prior to iCoding, Mr. Edmonston was employed at Qualcomm Incorporated in San Diego for several years, serving as Patent Counsel for the ASIC division, where he managed the ASIC portfolio including disclosure development, and prepared patent applications in the area of CDMA communications systems, ASIC architecture, forward error correction, software tool development and communications infrastructure equipment, as well as patent licensing in the area of forward error correction.

Prior to Qualcomm, Mr. Edmonston was an attorney at Blakely, Sokoloff, Taylor & Zaffmann in Costa Mesa, CA, where he prepared Patent Applications in the area of computer systems, CPU architecture, ASIC circuits and design, software and communications for various clients including Intel, Sun Microsystems, Cirrus Logic and Apple Computer.

Mr. Edmonston was also a Semiconductor Product Engineer at Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) at Hudson, MA, where he worked in the semiconductor division of DEC producing custom ASIC for its digital computer and storage divisions.

Mr. Edmonston has a Juris Doctorate degree from University of San Diego School of Law, and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis.  He is an inventor/co-inventor on four (4) issued U.S. patents dealing with CDMA technology and turbo coding, and several other pending applications.

 

Peter J. Gutierrez, III 

Mr. Gutierrez is an intellectual property attorney with the firm of Gazdzinski & Associates. He is registered to practice before the United States Patent & Trademark Office, and has been admitted to the California Bar. He holds a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of San Diego School of Law, and also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, CA. Mr. Gutierrez has a broad multi-discipline engineering background in the fields of mechanical engineering, materials science and digital signal processing.

Prior to joining the firm of Gazdzinski & Associates, Mr. Gutierrez' engineering experience included employment with Pulse Engineering, Inc. in San Diego as a Mechanical engineer for the HS LAN and Telecom Divisions with primary responsibilities of providing improved magnetic packaging for the LAN and Cable television industries.


Mr. Gutierrez was also employed as a consultant for EG & G Belfab, Inc. (Daytona Beach, FL) under the direction of Joseph A. King, PhD., where he conducted research and failure analyses of edge-welded bellows using a SEM and EDS quantitative methods.

While at Harvey Mudd, Mr. Gutierrez was Engineering Clinic Team Leader for Boeing Rocketdyne (Canoga Park, CA), where he led a team in an alternative design effort of the Space Shuttle main combustion chamber (MCC) to nozzle joint.

Also at Harvey Mudd, Mr. Gutierrez worked with TRW, Inc. (El Segundo, CA) and was responsible for the application of neural network technology (back-propagation neural networks) to correct dynamic distortion in analog-to-digital converters (ADCs).   

 

 

Julie Melendez Flores

 

Ms. Flores is an intellectual property attorney with Gazdzinski & Associates, and is registered to practice before the United States Patent & Trademark Office.

 

Ms. Flores received her Juris Doctorate from Thomas Jefferson School of Law and graduated with Cum Laude and Pro Bono Honors. She graduated in the top 25% of her class and received a Certificate in Law, Technology & Communication. Ms. Flores also received Center for Computer-Assisted Legal Instruction Awards and Jefferson Medals for accomplishments in Insurance Law and Intellectual Property & Competition Law. Ms. Flores was also listed on the National Dean’s List and Thomas Jefferson School of Law Distinguished Honor Roll during her law school career.

 

Ms. Flores received a Bachelors of Science degree in Biochemistry with minors in Mathematics and Chemistry from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, graduating with honors. After receiving her BS, she studied Molecular Biophysics at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.

 

While in undergraduate school, Ms. Flores participated in summer research programs at Texas A&M University, Tufts University, and the University of Michigan. Ms. Flores’ scientific research regarding the substrate specificity of Tyrosine Hydroxylase and Phenylalnine Hydroxylase was published in Biochemistry. Prior to attending law school, Ms. Flores taught Math and Science at Our Lady of Peace Middle School and Geometry, Algebra I& II, and Biology at St. Gerard Catholic High School. At St. Mary’s University, Ms. Flores also assisted other students in the subjects of Calculus, Finite Mathematics, Algebra, Trigonometry and Biochemistry at the Learning Assistance Center.

 

Prior to joining Gazdzinski & Associates, Ms. Flores interned with the United States Marine Corps Legal Assistance Center at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, as well title-related work with The Boss Law firm, and real-estate work with The Callahan Law Firm in San Diego, CA.
